VERTIGO (1958)

It's only fitting that my first post is about my all-time favorite movie, VERTIGO, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. I first saw VERTIGO when my best friend, Kassie, introduced me to it when we were in high school. We were in the middle of a Hitchcock-obsession (which I'm not sure will ever end for either of us) and she brought it over for us to watch. Immediately, I knew this would be something that had a long-lasting impression on me, and I was definitely right.

Visually, VERTIGO is stunning. As the title suggests, altitude and vertically composed imagery play a big part in the film and the image below proves how well-composed and interesting this film can be.

There's a dream sequence in the film that is unnerving, but really dark and whimsical. The image of Jimmy Stewart's saturated face still haunts and inspires me.

My favorite scene happens in The Redwood Forest and the two main characters are surrounded by trees that make them look so fragile and small. This scene is the inspiration for my next craft piece!

The dark tones and conflicting sizes of the people and trees will lend themselves well to a watercolor silhouette! I haven't actually started it yet, but as soon as I do, work in progress pictures will be posted!
